New Zealand Costuming
Where Kiwis around the world can find and support each other in their costuming endeavours.
New Zealand has an amazing pool of talent which has been largely unrecognised, by ourselves as well as others. We are familiar with those who have gone on to achieve international fame such as Ngila Dickson and (if you are a theatre buff) Elizabeth Whiting.
But what of the costume hobbyist? We are an active lot, but not many are as in the spotlight or are involved in large scale group projects/events. Part of this can be attributed to the feeling of isolation from each other and the rest of the world. We are involved in many forms of costuming from recreation media costumes to historical re-enactment.
Please see our forum for further information and discussion of costumes and events of a variety of genres.
Groups: Living history, fan costume groups, LARPers
Events: Each year there are large scale events where costumes are welcome.
Contests: New Zealand has an international reputation in the world of wearable art and there are several outlets if this is where your interest lies.
Discussion groups: many groups have their own e-forums.
